Guest Post: Production Mgr of "Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead"
I mentioned awhile back that I wanted to do a couple new fun things with the blog - and one of those is to bring some outside perspectives (every once in awhile) on what others believe to be the essentials for a happy healthy life. Afterall, that's the goal of this blog!! I am soooooo excited to bring the next post in the series to you, from the Production Manager of the acclaimed Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead documentary. She reached out to me at the beginning of the year about being included in their "Reboot Profile" series - highlighting true stories of how this movie (and juicing) has changed our lives for the better. We exchanged lots of emails back and forth, and what I discovered was a true cheerleader: someone who is truly excited about this journey I'm on. So, without further ado...
Meet Jamin:
Hello! My name is Jamin; and I first met Kelly when she shared her healthy transformation story with the Reboot Your Life community. I spend my days focused on creating and curating all sorts of 'healthy lifestyle' content at www.JoinTheReboot.com, and in my free time, I also keep a photo blog of my own pursuits at www.BrooklynJam.com and tweet via @JaminLM -- Pursuits that typically involve a vast array of fruits, vegetables, smoothies and juices, anything having to do with my hometown of Brooklyn, and I usually throw a couple of puppies, beaches and sunsets into the mix!
For me, one of the most beautiful things about the world is just how different we all are - so the 3 things that are essential to my own life may be different than yours, and neither are necessarily right or wrong. The best case scenario is that we never stop learning from each other and we celebrate our differences! Hey, it's what makes the world go around!
Three Essentials to a Happy Healthy Life:
#1 Fresh Air:
I need it... I crave it... As a city-dweller, I truly need to make time to get outside and take it in. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to work, and I've found a route that takes me right through a beautiful little park. This outside time is so precious to me and in fact, it is crucial to my mood for the day. On days where I have to race to a meeting on the subway, or it's raining too hard to walk, there is a noticeable difference! I also make time to escape the city, even if it's just a quick jaunt out to the beach in Montauk.
#2 Fresh Food:
I am a fresh food freak. I belong to my local CSA and every week when I pick up fresh, organic, local veggies, I get super excited! I believe the nutritional value of organic, seasonal food is higher, I feel good supporting my local farmer and I love knowing that my veggies are grown within 100 miles of my home. Best of all, since I keep my kitchen stocked with whole grains like brown rice, bulgur wheat, quinoa, and soba noodles, when it's CSA season, I almost never have to shop - a great time-saver!
#3 Travel:
I wish I could do it more, but I do my best to go somewhere special once a year. And when I'm out there in the world, I do my best to soak it all in. For me, travel is equal parts museums & cultural sites and also local flavor. I love meeting people from different cities and countries and hearing their story -- what they do, how they grew hope, where they want to go. Now that I'm no longer in school, I believe I may actually learn more in one week in a new country than I do the rest of the year in NY.
Kelly here. Thank you so much, Jamin, for sharing your essentials! And for living a healthy happy life yourself. And for pouring yourself into such an important documentary!
